Dubai continues to bring architectural fame to the UAE. Many recent plans have focused on megatall, or super-tall, buildings. The Burj Dubai is due to be finished in 2010. The top of its tower will be 2,684 feet (818 m) high. Dubai’s Princess Tower (1,358 feet, or 414 m) will follow in 2011. Other megatall projects scheduled for Dubai’s future include Marina 101, 23 Marina, the Emirates Park towers, and the Elite Residence. These tall spires will all pass the Burj al Arab in height. But the Burj al Arab achieves what its architect set out to do. They created an instantly recognizable building for Dubai. The Burj al Arab will remain a symbol of the city and an architectural wonder.
