Golden Oriole, Oriolus oriolus

Golden Oriole, Oriolus oriolus. Regular visitor on migration; has nested. Mosdy recorded in southern England in thick woodland, especially oak.
: 9 1/2 inches. Male as shown, female a duller yellow-green, pale and streaked underneath, wings and tail dark brownish.
: Beautiful two or three note whistle of male suggested by German name Pirol. Also screeches and cat-calls like 7.
: Very difficult to see; spends most time in thick cover. Fast but heavy and undulating flight with final sweep up to perch. Usually in ones or twos in Britain.
BE CONFUSED with 78, 101.
